Mom: Why don't you marry your friend Caroline, she can have a baby. Your brother could be the donor so it would be my real grandchild. It would be your neice or nephew as well as your son or daughter.
Me: Wow it appears you've put some thought into this.
Mom: it came to me last night, I thought it was an awesome idea. run my idea by Caroline I'll even pay for the psychiatrist the kid will need one day.

So I guess adopting kids are out of the question so they wouldn’t be “real grandchildren”…
Sadly, I have had a very similar conversation with my mom. Only it was during her mid-life sexual identity crisis- and her girlfriend wanted to get knocked up with my brother’s stuff and then my mom would be mom and grandma. I told her that I didn’t think Jerry Springer was still on the air, but I refused to go with them when this idea goes bad, as if it wasn’t already. Good thing mom decided that she preferred gardening to sex with women before something trailer happened. I still think she expects me to “grow out” of my gayness too, and then I’ll enjoy gardening….
Sorry to lower the tone, but I completely lost it at “Wow it appears you’ve put some thought into this.” I want to program that into an auto-reply to my mother. Brilliant.
