My sister, who is 52 with 3 grown kids was actually the first to get her belly button pierced. Her 2 daughters followed her lead.

I’m a 54 year old female and last week I had my upper ear pierced and I LOVE it!! However, my husband now will not even talk to me. Before he started his ‘vow of silence’ he ragged on me about what a ‘follower’ I am and how disgusting the piercing is and how could I do this to my body…yadda, yadda, yadda
I’ve wanted this piercing for years and finally I do it, and now I have to contend with Mr. Sourpuss. BTW, he’s a lot older than me and tries to control me – ‘tries’ being the operative word here.
Any ideas on how to handle this?
Oh, and there’s no way in hell I’m removing my earring!!!!!!

Oh goodness this whole post card is a load of bull. I’m on my way to a bilingual diploma and guess what I’m getting pierced next Friday?

Yea this mom needs to grow up a lot. That’s just plain judgmental and idiotic. But a guess is a guess. Even if its the stupidest guess I have ever heard.

My parents had a weird reaction to me piercing myself. They never wanted to take me and expect saying no, so I just grabbed one of my self piercing earrings, sat in front of the mirror with some cleaner and a grape and pierced my cartilage myself. It hurt cause I went through it slowly cause I freaked out a little after I seen my own blood but after it went through I was fine. They didn’t notice it until about 2 days after and they kinda just asked why and shook their heads… I mean they really couldn’t do much, it was already in my head. My boyfriend freaked more than my parents did when he found out that I pierced it (lol). I wonder what they’re gonna do when I pierce my nose… And I’m indian so this is gonna be funny.

Sorry Rin, but the body mod fad began way back in the late 80′s and most of the people with tongue piercings that I know got them in the early 90′s.
I am all for individual expression but seeing this many people ranging from teens to grans with nose piercings makes me feel unique for having a metal free face ;)

I saw a girl who couldn’t have been more than 10 years old with her nose pierced the other day and this was an American child. I totally did a double-take because I couldn’t believe it.

I remember the first time I shaved the under part of my hair… I heard ALL of this from a friend’s mother.

My daughter just came home on her graduation day with a nose piercing… I have to say I’m with the first mom. I think it is gross and disgusting and makes her beautiful intelligent face look cheap and trashy.She could not have upset me more on her graduation day… which was probably the point.

I honestly always thought parents fight about the little things to stop us from doing the big things. I had to sneak around to start putting make-up on, to have more than one necklace on at school (v. conservative school), wear heels, ‘different cloths’, etc… But whenever I felt I’d ‘won’ one of those victories, I always felt I owed it to the parents to behave since they had been so understanding. Obviously, not my train of thought at the time, but when I look back on it now I think it’s hilarious the way me and most of my friends thought we were being rebellious with piercings, and clothes and music and tats, but at the same time studied hard at school, and most of us ended up with good careers (not necessarily making lots of money, but things we enjoy doing and that bring satisfaction).
One of my really good friends is married to a pastor, and she has a few tats that are visible, and a few piercings, including her nose. The little old ladies at church think it’s sweet, and she says she likes them because it reminds her of when she was ‘wild’ and makes her thankful for what she has now. So everything on your body creates a history, just make sure it’s something you’d be happy to remember, and not ‘I got this done at 14 coz my mum didn’t want me to.’

So. Get this. I begged my dad for about a year and a half to get my belly button pierced. That is the only piercing I have on my body. I don’t even have my ears done, surprisingly. I want tattoos when I get older of course, but only two. Now. Back to the nose-ring convo. I asked my dad for that. He said “Absolutely not. I thought you weren’t even going to keep your bellybutton ring.” Wrongggg, I’m keeping it daddy. Haha. And guess what. I’m planning to keep nagging him for the nose ring. Just because you get one, doesn’t mean anything. Doesn’t mean you’ll have a trashy boyfriend, or you’ll have a kid. If you make yourself think that, then it’ll happen. But if you don’t, I highly doubt it. And if you think before you make your choices, you definitely won’t have any problems. But you can’t blame it on a piercing for your future life events. That’s not the piercings fault, after all, it’s just metal. Think about what I said. Even if I am only 15. Someone small can always make a difference you know. :)

I’m 13 and my parents are awesome. I got my ears done before I could walk by my awesome aunt for her wedding. Just a few days ago, I asked if I could get my ears double pierced and my nose done and my dad says he doesn’t care if I get piercings and my mom says it’s okay if my dad gives the thumbs up. I’m going to get my ears and nose done soon, and eventually eyebrow and navel.

im gettin my nose pierced tuesday . im 15 and my nose willl make my 10th piercing double ear piercing 1 on each ear where it starts in cartilidge 1 cartilidge my tragus and belly button. i recently broke up with my boyfriend of 1 year and a half so clearly just because someone has piercings doesnt mean theyr stupid and gunna end up with a trashy bf, also to prove that piercings dont make you stupid im a sophmore in english honors algebra 2 honors and italian 2 honors and no grades below b’s . so everyone who wants piercings but doesnt get them because of what people say or how they will react , get them! screw the people who stereotype there just people who dont have anything better to do with their life. <3
p.s. i plan on getting my rook and possibly daith 8D

I think this is completely wrong. I am fifteen years old and my parents we’re perfectly fine with my nose piercing. It took them awhile to say yes. As long as I bought it with my own money. It is not whorish at all. I think you are saying that people that have nose piercings are whores. It’s just a piercing, I think you are making it a big deal.

First time I’ve ever posted here, but I couldn’t help myself! I had my tongue pierced 12 years ago. Which means it was done before everyone had one lol. I have my lip pierced and my nose pierced. Both ears are pierced multiple times and I have 5 tattoos so far. I was at a family gathering one day and had my aunt (who first helped me dye my hair when I was 15) ask me if I’d “allow” my children to get piercings or tattoos. I told her no. I will take my children to get their tattoos and/or piercings until they are over 18 and can make their own choices on an artist. In fact, I’ve told all four of my kids that when they turn 16 I will take them and get them a tattoo. She looked at me like I had 2 heads and was shooting flames from my mouth.

My reasons for this are valid. I would ten times rather know who is doing the piercing/inking and what they are getting done than to have them do it themselves or in their friend’s basement with no supervision. I can’t tell them not to do it, but will encourage them to make the decision based on personal choice and not just because everyone is doing it. My family is super religious and I’m the black sheep lol. They love me anyway and that makes everything ok.
