Just be cruel and tell her it’s a slang term for a comon item, like a cell phone or purse. Hilarity will insue.

This sounds exactly like a panic phone call I recieved from my mom while I was in college… “I just read an article in the newspaper about freak dancing. What is it? Do you participate in this? I don’t like the sound of it…”

You could also go with, “Mom, they probably just misspelled “Bomb”.

This would do two things. I would create plausible deniability about bong knowledge, and cause her to worry needlessly about random people carrying bombs in her home town. ;-)

Reading the police reports doesn’t have to have anything to do with being in the legal field. Most newspapers have a ‘Police Blotter’ column that recounts the latest police reports–usually for entertainment value. But I must agree that a mom would have to be in the 70 yr old and up range (or lived a very sheltered life) to not have heard of a bong before.

Oh come on. My mom knows what a bong is. Plus, it sounds like this mom works in a legal setting… if she doesn’t know what a bong is after working in the legal field, someone should educate her!

That’s so cute. Unfortunately my parents don’t remember the 60s that they lived through, so the word bong is definitely in their vocab.

You could really blow her mind and tell her all the different things you can make a bong out of ;)

No, really this could definately be my mom. She used to read the police reports when I was away at college living by myself; and she does not know the meaning of the word bong, I had to explain to her what getting ‘stoned’ meant! She actually thought they were talking in the bible sense of the word.

I agree w/ Erin. Seriously, Mother’s typically read the local newspaper for Obit’s and Wedding announcements, they get their hard news from the internet/T.V. There is no way she is reading police reports.

Tell her to go to wikipedia and look it up. ;-)
