Mom’s Amazing Plan

OMG…This really could be a win…win situation.  Go and see that house across the street from your sister.  If the downstairs is private enough for you (and me)…I could move into the downstairs and you & family upstairs.  I could give you $50,000.00+ and pay you rent and you could pay me for babysitting…which would probably even out.  I could pay some utilities…we could just work it out!!!  I could even work at Jerimiah’s office…maybe 10-12 hours a week.  It would be much closer to Cary, which is very expensive…and the traffic.  Most IMPORTANT…you, your sister & myself could have cocktails at 5:00 PM every day…WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay… but she has to buy her own booze.

This could either be really good, or exceedingly bad. I guess it all depends on the size of the house. Though it is sweet that she is “OMG” excited about the idea.

This is freaking hilarious! I can just hear the eyes rolling from the daughter.
You don’t EVER want your parents THAT close, EVER! Even if they are perfect.

Kudos to the most thought-out “mom needs a better place to live” plan EVER.

My mom lives in the house where we kids grew up, my brother lives in the apartment in her garage (it’s nice, not a garage at all), and my sister lives in the house right next door with her fiance, who is one of my brother’s best friends. Another of their best friends lives next to my sister on the other side, and his wife grew up with us on that street, too.

We joke that it’s like the Hotel California – you can check out any time you like but you can never leave! We also call it The Compound.

My brother is 29 and my sister is 27, by the way.

I live an hour and a half south with my family. It’s hard sometimes when I call and everyone’s together, hanging out drinking wine on the back porch or eating dinner, but I wouldn’t trade my privacy… Yikes! We have enough conflict with a 90 mile buffer. They’ve joked about us moving back home, but I. Don’t. Think. So.

For me 3,500 miles and an ocean, was just about enough buffer. my twin sisters lived next door to each other for years. spooky

In my 20s this would have been the definition of hell. In my 30s it sounds wonderful – mom’s not mothering any more.

This is my mom. The funniest part about it is that the house she’s talking about is listed at $500,000!!!! Now, we aren’t starving….but there is NOOOO WAY we could afford a half million dollar house!

She’s a fun mom though – and she, my sis & I have alot of fun together. My husband & I both wouldn’t mind if she lived with us…that is, if we could afford a 4400 square foot house such as this one!!!

House prices are funny like that. Average house price where in the city where I live is $450,000 for a run down, 20+ year old two bedroom unit. And that is 20+ kms out of the CBD, so a 4400 square foot house for $500,000 sounds pretty reasonable to me.

So who’s babysitting after 5:00 p.m. when everyone is getting plowed on “cocktails”?

I just moved to the Triangle and am amazed at what passes for a $500k house! Just get it close to the Crossroads, easy access to the Beltline and you KNOW you’ll reap the reward when you need to sell it!

I dunno, finding a good babysitter is tough. I’d do it.

I have neighbors like this… the mom moved in next door to the grandma and then the son moved across the street from his mom… I’m surrounded! (only 4 houses on this side of the block) They’re sweet but they meet in the middle of the street to chat and if they catch you you’ll never get inside!!!#%!#%!
