Hi Sweetie..ok…I just have to say it. The Wiccan thing is just killing me. I hate seeing that on your profile :(
I do love you madly though.

What’s worse than a mother criticizing your Wiccan ways?
…….wait for it……..
Mom’s naked body painted blue from head to toe, drinking mead from a hollow horn and saying, “Merry meet and merry part!”

What’s worse than a mother criticizing your Wiccan religion?
Having a bunch of people who now nowt about it making jokes.
Could be worse, could be the religion of Atheism.

John, your little joke is not appreciated. If you knew anything at all about Wicca, you would know that Wiccans respect nature and do their best to prevent harm to animals. If you are going to comment about something, at least show some knowledge of the subject.
That being said, I can empathize with child of this mother – I am Wiccan and my mother took to talking behind my back about how terrible it is and how much it’s wrong, etc etc etc…

Rose – if we can’t laugh at the little things then what do we have? Learn to be able to laugh at yourself (in general) and you’ll find the world around you a lighter place.
I found his joke funny. You’d be surprised at how many of us out here do know Pagean religions revolve around nature and respect for it.
That being said. My nose is huge because air is free. Guess what my parents tried to raise me as!
:-p
My mom keeps telling me I’ll believe in religion when I have kids. Before that it was I’ll believe in religion when I am indepenent and a part of the real world. Before that was when I graduate college. Before that was when I go to college. She keeps dreaming. And will always love me madly. (The child who gave up religion, but loves her spirituality)

I agree with MonkeySpeaks. John’s tongue-in-cheek comment was funny to me too. I actually know a lot about Wiccan beliefs and practices but even the most rudimentary search (ie wiki) of Wicca pulls up info about the basis in nature and the importance of respect of nature and wild life.
I think John’s comment pokes fun at the Wiccan stereotype rather than Wicca itself. One of the best ways to reduce a stereotype is through humor. I’m saddened by the post itself, that having a Wiccan child is “killing” the mother in question, and by your addition that your mother did much the same but I don’t think it’s fair to lump John’s comment into this category.
(It seems with parents that the kids get into the one thing they aren’t ready for. My parents are pretty liberal and gave me free reign on religion and it would have been fine if I was gay but it kills them that I’m into tattoos and piercings and neon-colored hair.)

Harumph…
As an atheist and non-believer in all things “paranormal” I take umbrage with the comment made by Darkstar. His obvious disregard for the beliefs and/or non-beliefs of others… on second thought, what a waste of time…
(Really? Darkstar? That’s the name you chose? Is it written on the lining of your purple crushed velveteen cape?)

@Uulargh
“Darkstar” isn’t so bad. At least it isn’t “Raven.”

Well….I wasn’t kidding about the naked person painted blue, because I was Wiccan once and saw it with my own two eyes at Hippy Hollow on a big Wiccan campout/gathering. I got the gist of John’s joke. It was mildly funny. And obviously a JOKE.

mildly?!

Hi, this is Courtney. That’s my mom who made the Facebook comment.
I think John’s comment was hilarious, by the way. Other Wiccans reading this, lighten up. Blessed be.

I’m Wiccan and thought the joke hilarious, too.
But I’m twisted.
