More Erotic Than Professional

Hi, luv,

My pleasure!  Both of us really like your excellent resume but we hope you don’t mind us mentioning that we feel that “hot” in your e-mail address might deter a serious employer from hiring you.  It tends to sound more erotic than professional (more like for a stripper than a fitness instructor).  Also, someone might actually be too embarrassed to respond to such an address.

It’s interesting that the references’ addresses are more toned down.  Dad suggests:  fitveganmomma!

Much love as always and hoping that you won’t take offense.
See you tomorrow, Mum (& Dad)   xxx

Mom’s advice is good! There are several companies in our area that won’t even consider an applicant with non professional email addresses.

I am just hoping it is not a *Hotmail* account! :)

No kidding. I would giggle at your resume if your email said “hotveganmomma”.

fitveganmomma@hotmail.com would get tossed right in the trash. Cute for friends, but highly unprofessional.

I’m a recruiter and I can vouch for the fact that I question the judgement of anyone with a totally unprofessional email address. I’d likely toss aside hotveganmomma, although honestly, I have seen worse!

Someone teach this kid how to have a professional looking gmail account set up that forwards all your mail to your personal e-mail. They’ll never know that Bsmith@gmail.com is really freaknasty69@hotmail.com. They’ll never know..

Ashely: Except that despite any testing done to make sure the forwarding is set correctly, sometimes it still effs up and won’t forward properly—- I was the lucky applicant who found this out once when a possible employer called me after I never responded back to their e-mail!

Well Mel it is still better than giving them a conceited-too-much-information or just plain inappropriate e-mail address and being rejected just on that basis.

Why would you *ever* put your e-mail address on your resume? The vast majority of employers don’t need it, and they can use it to google search you and find out all of your interesting quirks. Like perhaps if you *are* some kind of vegan stripper. Or you subscribe to alt.vegan.bukkake.replacement.recipes.

Great advice from Mom! Why would anyone use their personal e-mail address (especially one that says “hot” in it) for job applications? Of course you look unprofessional! I have two separate accounts, one for personal and one for apps. My professional is simply firstname.lastname@gmail.com (With my real name in there, obviously.)

As some other people said, I hope she wasn’t pointing out the “hot” in “hotmail!” XD
