She needs a pill shooter from the vet. Then it is easy. You crouch down with the cat between your knees. Lift up their chin. Push the sides of their mouth and it opens. Put the pill shooter to the back of the throat and then push the pill in. Shut the cats mouth and massage the sides of it throats-this forces the cat to swallow.
But if she really hates these cats she should just give them away to home that want them.

The pill shooter really wouldn’t work for all cats. My cat starts clawing you the second you attempt to pick her up. She hasn’t had her nails cut since she was about 3 months old because we all ended up so scratched, and the vet had to put her out to do it, and we didn’t want to keep doing that to her. If she ever has to have pills we are totally screwed.

The best way to give a cat a pill is to wear a heavy coat and hold on tight!!!

Noooo you wrap the cat up in a bath towel and straddle him to the floor so he can’t move. Then you shove the pill into his mouth, hold it close and wait for him to swallow. Get a cat! A shelter cat! And just remember to have a bath towel on hand for all pill giving.

Never pick the cat up when giving a pill, then the pill shooter will work. I have worked with ALL sorts of cats-feral to bad attitude to tame and sweet and have never had a problem with the pill shooter method and the straddling. You have to be really fast. A towel will help if you’re nervous. I have only been scratched twice.

My mom used to have the same problem with trimming my cat daughter’s claws, but then she started massaging the cat’s paws every day. She started when the cat was very calm and relaxed, and she’d stop as soon as the cat tensed up. Now, I can clip her claws or rub her lil’ feet anytime I want with no problem. Thanks, mom!
Also, my friend’s cat has to take a pill every day for his arthritis, and he seems to have made the connection between taking the pill and feeling better. Every morning, when she reaches for the pills, he goes into his “pill stance,” waits for her to stick it in his mouth, and swallows it wil not problem. He’s a bruiser, too, which makes it more awesome.

M – that’s too funny!!! My husband came downstairs last night with my two year old telling me he found a fool proof way to get his teeth brushed. Skeptically, I inquired into how on Earth he found a “fool proof” way. He continued to wrap our son up in a towel so he couldn’t move his arms!!! It worked!!!!

I’ve got 7 cats…..and need another box of fucking bandaids whenever one of them gets sick. Those pill shoots don’t work….cats have back claws that will NOT stay and whatever you wrap them in. Oh, they WILL, however, stay embedded in your thigh until you let go and they take a hunk of skin with them.

Well maybe I just randomly have good luck with cats. I don’t know. But I have even done this with feral cats with no problem. Maybe I am a cat whisperer or something.

I love my 2 cats, but giving them pills is the worst. They turn from furry little mounds of love into hissing cuisinarts.
All cat medication should be liquid so you can squirt it onto their face or paws and then they’re forced to lick it off.

i don’t have cats, so I don’t know, but why can’t you just wrap the pill in something they like to eat? Like how I mix my dog’s pill in her food or I put it in a piece of cheese. Or are cats harder to fool than dogs?

Lin, cats are not gulpers like dogs and they know when a pill is embedded in their food. If you can get a pill in their mouths (I recommend the towel and straddling them) you have to clamp their mouths shut and make sure they actually swallow.

I have to say, as a cat lover and blissful cat owner, I do understand this post! As much as I -adore- my kitten, when she gets really bitey and scratchy, or we have to give her medicine, or she chews up my homework and librarby books, in those moments I am likely to RAGE (like in an email to my mom). But then she goes and does something super cute.
