Blood, Sweat, Tears and a Cheap Purse

Backstory: My mother is a little fashion-challenged and so there has been some pressure from all her kids to update her look. Apparently, some critiques were not so well-received.

This is the reality of being a parent. You work, you sweat, you cry, you bleed. And then your kid grows up to tell you you have a cheap purse.

I HATE cheap purses on a woman of a certain age. Ick!

This is part of the fun of having grown-up kids; the relationship moves on to a whole different level. You have to adapt.
Just this weekend my twenty-something daughter told my husband that it would be time for him to “divorce me and get rid of the dead weight”. I laughed so hard I thought I would pass out. It’s all in the timing folks!

I think if mom has worked, sweated, cried, and bled, she totally deserves a nice, quality purse! Treat yourself, mom! (And help do your part to boost the economy!)

Why don’t the children buy Mom an acceptable purse?

Is it walmart cheap or just not a good name? No mom should be using a walmart purse. I was totally also thinking that the children should buy mom a purse. If they want to update her look, maybe they should pitch in!

I agree, buy mama a new bag. I buy my mom a new Coach purse every few years for Xmas. It’s the least I can do for all the Doc Martens, computers and god knows what else over the years.

Maybe mum likes her ‘cheap purse’ or hangs on to it just for spite. I have a fringed buckskin jacket that my kids ABSOLUTELY.HATE. I wear it just to annoy them. Live long enough to be a problem to your children, I say. Payback is sweet.

Aw. This made me smile. My mom used to have a…unique…style (and sometimes still does) but ever since she lost her post cancer weight she loves taking my old skinny jeans, “hip” purses and whatever else I clean out of my closet to take to Buffalo Exchange. And she looks pretty darn good!

I bought my mom a Prada bag for her birthday. She still carries the same $30 Eddie Bauer tote most of the time. And looks good doing it. Joke’s on me.

Weird, I must be the only one thinking how ridiculous it is to make someone feel bad over what purse they are walking around with. Status symbols? really? who cares.
