Mom the Neighborhood Color Nazi

Mom: I am so excited I can defeat the evil green! I will now take on the whole neighborhood and send letters to all those that did not comply and have them repaint their houses before they can sell them. I am the neighborhood color Nazi!
me: … and we wonder why I’m a dork.
Mom: I KNOW YOU ARE!

What’s the back story on this one?

Wow, I hate when people in neighborhoods are like that.

I can understand asking a family to keep up with home care (lawn care, no houses falling apart) but it REALLY bugs me when someone decides they dont like someone elses house color and makes a fuss.

Its not your house, you didn’t pay for it, you want a certain color, paint your OWN house that color.

I still don’t understand this one, that is why I asked for back story. Is the Mom mad at people who painted their house green? Sorry if I sound silly, but I am confused.

I can’t stand people like this…there is ALWAYS one in every neighborhood.

Don’t they have anything better to do?

I am not the kid in this post- but it sounds like the mom is like on the Homeowner Association Board (HOA) or is the president of it. Basically these planned neighborhoods have like bylaws and rules for the people who buy a house there- like you can only paint your house one of these 5 colors, you can only plant these plants, you can’t put up political signs, you can’t mow your lawn on any day except on Wednesday morning from 9 am to 11am… My husband and I refuse to live in one of those neighborhoods because of how stupid it is to pay someone to tell you how to keep your house.

When you don’t follow their rules- pay a fine until you fix the problem. and it is all under the guide of “maintaining property values”

Thanks for explaining. I don’t know why, but my mind wasn’t going to Homeowner’s Boards, I was confused.

But as soon as you wrote it, I was like d’uh!

But I would hate that type of neighborhood too; it is ridiculous!
