This is better than my mom texting me that a favorite uncle of mine had passed away.

Hey, at least your family bothers to mention these things. Who knows what dead uncles I’ve got piling up unaccounted for.

My mom let me know that a cousin had cancer in the post script of an email, but then called me and made sure I was sitting down to break the news when Peter Jennings announced he had lung cancer.

I have found out about family deaths from third party casually mentioning to me that my family “must all be at ——’s funeral right now”.
Me: “WHAT ??!!!” My mom is on notice from me that it better not happen again. Ever. Just because I live far away and likely wouldn’t be able to make it to most funerals doesn’t mean I don’t want to be notified!
