Miss USA Broo Ha Ha

Have you heard the broo ha ha @ Miss CA’s answer to the gay marriage Q? If not Google it. I thought the judge(gay) that asked the Q seemed reasonable on Larry King last night but apparently sounded like an idiot when he called her a dumb blonde on his blog. Somebody Hilton is his name. She said I was raised to believe in only a man & woman… no offense to anyone. Miss NC won and some think that Q cost Miss CA the title.

Raise your hands if you expected a clearly thought out, well balanced answer from a beauty pageant contestant. Shame on you.

I think that she was set up. This pageant is not supposed to be a political platform, its a beauty pageant. I believe that this was not an appropriate question to ask ANYBODY at a beauty pageant. But, she answers truthfully and honestly and look what happens. Guess it is ok to voice your beliefs as long as you agree with the people who are gay or lesbian but if you don’t agree you can’t say anything. So much for freedom of speech in this country, now you have to be gay to be able to speak freely.

well said, JRG. She answered with her honest opinion and not something PC. good for her!

She was pandering to the religious right. Now she becomes the poster girl for the crazy fundamentalists. She can probably get a job doing ads for Focus on the Family. Yay.

Since when is it wrongful to tell the truth about you believe in, especially when asked! Seems to me a lot of people should take note and be more forthcoming with what they truly believe, not what they are lead to believe. There is no crime in being honest. Isn’t honesty one of the best virtues to have?

It’s interesting that those who are complaining about Miss California’s loss fail to realize that while we do have the right to free speech, we also have to realize the consequences to voicing our opinions. Miss California’s loss was simply the consequence of her choice of a belief system that alienates a large portion of the population, not just gays and lesbians, but heterosexuals who believe in equal rights for ALL people.
What I can’t understand is why Perez Hilton has been given any legitimacy at all. He’s one of the most disgusting bloggers around. Helen Popkin described that situation best in her column here http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30329216/
As for beauty pageants not being a place for a political platform, JRG, you are simply wrong. All the major beauty pageants require some sort of Q & A that involves some type of political policy. That question was just a hot button topic. Perhaps though the brouhaha will give a little CPR to a sad, sick, and dying industry – that of the beauty pageant.

Maybe each contestant should each be allowed 5 minutes to “think it through!”

Hmmm…a beauty pageant contestant thinking…think it will work?

Does anyone even know who Miss USA is? I feel sorry for Miss NC or as Perez said today…Miss SC or NC or whoever it was that won!

I agree that it was not the right question for a beauty pageant! Also though people are forgetting her answer was rambling and, at times, incoherent.
I wouldn’t care if she stood up for what she believed in, if she said it in a well thought out way. But maybe that is too much to expect. Who knows?

Being “brought up” a certain way doesn’t make someone’s wrong beliefs any less wrong.

Perez Hilton is a crazy megalomaniac, and is a perfect example of a no-talent wannabe seizing an opportunity to be noticed.

Miss California was asked a question. (Granted, it was a stupid question in this venue — it’s not as though Miss USA is in any position to influence political agendas!) She answered it truthfully and tactfully. This is not a question of “political correctness” — ironically, Perez Hilton is just as guilty of bigotry and “hate speech” as he claims Miss California is, because by not agreeing with her, and by slamming her so viciously on his blog (yes, I did go and see it, and was frankly disgusted by his rant, which had all the earmarks of a petulant 4-year-old), he is, in fact, denying her the same rights as he claims for gays: the right to believe and live within one’s beliefs.

Miss California was careful to say that this was what SHE thought — she was polite, she didn’t slam gays, she didn’t make ugly, rude aspersions on those who thought differently. She simply smiled and said, “This I believe.” If Perez Hilton doesn’t believe the same thing — that is his right. Odd, isn’t it, that by disagreeing with her so vociferously, he became what he he accused her of being: “stupid”, etc. I think he will find that he did his cause more harm than good, when everything settles out. Miss California did speak gracefully for the majority of Americans, and the Miss USA Pageant slid a little further down the slimy slope of political correctness.

    • 15.  Whoa.

While I’m glad Miss CA decided to use her freedom of speech to answer her question, I think that the reason people are so upset about this is because it’s about equal rights.

It is literally like someone being asked “how do you feel about slavery?” and it being answered “I think it’s fine. I was raised that you can have people you own, and make them work for you for free.”

Really. Try NOT having the right to marry, and see if you think it’s fair.
