  But she’s right. I grew up in a town full of hippies, and they are both dirty and annoying. I’m a generally nice person and a liberal, but both of these things are just facts!

  This is my mom, and she actually is nice, just very outspoken. She was just frustrated with her vacation–she’d never been to Cali before, let alone northern Cali, and was expecting something else. And lest you think she was unfairly pigeonholing people, these are self-proclaimed, genuine hippies. The girls didn’t shave their armpits, they all hardly showered or changed their clothes (even after working on the farm) and they didn’t flush toilets until absolutely necessary. I’m all for being “green”, but not for being stinky.

  No problem. I’ve lived in two very poor countries, where running water and supermarkets didn’t exist outside of the capital, and the people living there worked very hard to get water for washing, and nobody stank! Nothing “natural” about choosing to be stinky!

  In my humble opinion, SF is a city where people do as they please, try to be respectful of one another for the most part, and generally don’t get in other people’s business. This mom identified that she wouldn’t fit in here. Also, just to clear up any misconceptions, people aren’t generally dirty or smelly in SF.
  Regardless, it’s still a funny post…

  SanFran itself was very nice. This was humbolt where yes all the dirty hippies live. Medical pot my ass. they all have acres and acres of it growing and are scared to death of airplanes. I had the most horrible time, yes with the hippies but it was my husbands son so we went . It was out of my element. The girls are nasty stinky..hairy, ala natural I suppose..save water for the plants.. not themselves..so why change clothes.. Put smelly socks in hemp bag when feet are hot then drag em out dirty and smelly all week.. Anyhoo, I am a nice person.. just have no fond love for hippies.. NUFF SAID !!!didn’t wear a flower in my hair

  Acres and acres of Pot growing, and yet you are the only one who is aware of it? Sounds like all that growing would take work from those so called hippes! I love the remark it was my “husbands son” so…we went.
  Legally that would also be known as YOUR “step son” I can only imagine that you are one of those people that wears enough perfume for everyone around you, and that your hair is a strange shade of “blue”
  “Anyhoo”…you sure are a nice person, just keep telling yourself that.
  Please don’t feel you need to visit outside your perfect little box when it comes to hanging out West. We all seem to smell “like shit”, but it’s better then being full of it. I found your email, small minded…far from funny.
