So you know how you’re not supposed to treat boy and girl babies any differently? Well, when you were little everyone how saw you would call you “sweetie” and “honey.” So when I had you with me I’d call you “sport” and “slugger” and tell you to man up. Maybe this is why you’re bisexual…

ha – this is great. in the name of NOT gender socializing my nephew, I call him princess (well, now that he talks back I have stopped). His football playing dad used to flip out.

Mom, stop trying to figure out if you did something wrong. This was a CHOICE, not anything you did or some sort of birth defect. Somebody made a choice about their own lifestyle and sexuality, so dont beat yourself up. You didn’t do anything wrong. Just keep loving them.

Ugh, JRG, do we really have to start “choice” debate about sexuality (not that it’s even a debate anyway)? In any case, I hardly think the mom was beating herself up anyway – she was trying to be funny!

I don’t really think its the gut wrenching admission of a mother torn about her bisexual son’s sexuality, and her role in it, JRG, but rather a sweet and funny joke from a mom to her son. No need to politicise it :)
