I actually think this is not bad as far as The Talk goes. She’s emphasising what she and the posters father would not be ok with and being quite open minded about the alternatives and giving her the facts (like needing a prescription). I definitely took the morning after pill to mean as backup to the condoms she should always be using if the poster didn’t like being on the pill. I wish more parents would be as willing to meet their kids halfway like this!

Very detailed! I will do this for my children someday.

All mine ever said to me was, “If you want your husband to make you your life better, you have to make him happy in the bed – especially after you have children, when you don’t feel like it and it takes effort.” But I am yet unmarried so she has not told anything else, thanks God.

I don’t think abortion is a lighthearted subject either, but OY VEY folks! If more parents would have these kinds of conversations with their kids, it would be great. I guess what I saw was concern, love, humor and candor from a parent to a child. And I like that in a parent-child relationship, but that’s just me.

All women should have the morning after pill in their medicine cabinet…it’s just assurance, in case there’s a slip-up.

If an egg is already implanted, it does not remove it. You can think the morning after pill is okay, and not believe in abortion – they are not one and in, the same.

K-The subjects of birth control, unwanted pregnancy and abortion are not “light-hearted” topics.
I agree that overall this mom has her daughter’s best interests at heart and often it’s important in relationships for your “side” to be heard or at least put out there–especially when the subject is such an important one.

Mom simply says “We don’t believe in abortion,” she doesn’t say it’s wrong or evil or not allowed; I think she gets to have her opinion. And of course the morning-after pill is birth control–the question is whether it’s optimal birth control, and while I would agree that it’s not, I’m with Mom in thinking it’s preferable to an unwanted pregnancy.

In short, I don’t agree with all of this mom’s stands, but I think her willingness to be open about sex and contraception is beneficial to her kid, and that differences in opinion are something that could be discussed between the two of them.

@ Jill D – in most states you do not need a prescription for the morning after pill, you just have to request it at the pharmacy because they keep it behind the counter. If you are under 18, you may need a prescription, not sure.

THE MORNING AFTER PILL IS NOT BIRTH CONTROL! However, I love that mom is pushing her views on her daughter here. Just because mom is against abortion, that means the daughter can’t have one if she decides to? If your daughter is over 18, guess what Mom, it’s her body, her choice. Mom sounds pretty controling here, telling the daughter she is not ready to raise a child. Also suggesting that Mom and Dad would be the ones to raise the daughters baby, wow, who decided that?

Yeah I think the recommendation of the morning after pill as a contraceptive is a little concerning! Hopefully she just meant as a “just in case” last resort type thing. Interesting for someone who doesn’t believe in abortion though, as many people who are against abortion are also against using the morning after pill.

PS: is that true that you need a prescription for morning after pill in what I’m guessing is America? I live in Australia and we can just buy it at the pharmacy now.
