The Coffee of Despair

Backstory: My ex-boyfriend’s parents are coming to town and want me to join them and their son for dinner — on his birthday.

mom: well, if it’s his b-day, you should probably take a gift
me: oh geez
what do you get for somebody whose heart you just broke?
mom: like maybe a starbuck’s gift card or something

    • 1.  Seriously?

Unless you’re still good friends with him (and his parents), I would recommend not going to that dinner. It can only lead to bad things.

      That’s awesome- coffee is magic!
Especially when it comes from Starbucks.

But seriously, the dinner sounds like a set up. Do not leave your food or drink unattended. Just a suggestion.

I was recently asked “Wouldn’t it be cool to go to your reunion (big one coming up in a few weeks) and see all your old girlfriends?” My response was “That’s why I broke up with them! I don’t want to see them!”

Generic, practical gift is the way to go here — Starbucks is perfect (good idea, Mom). But I agree with most here…best option is probably not to go to dinner at all unless it was a friendly breakup.

I completely agree with Seriously!. Stay far away from the whole situation, unless you are looking to reconcile. This is a set up if I’ve ever seen one. Remeber, there is a reason you broke it off with him.

Hahahaha……..That’s classic! But I there are very few things that would be more uncomfortable than that particular dinner situation. What would anybody talk about? Who would have an appetite? Ugh! Why would anyone think this was a good idea? Ewww….

Oh man, this is totally a set up. After I broke up with my last boyfriend, his mother was all sweetness and asking me to go to dinner, offering to talk as she knew I must be hurting too, saying she was here I if I needed her, etc…. until I kept declining, thanking her but saying that I was okay, it was between her son and I.

And then the real monster came out and she couldn’t have enough nasty things to say. She definitely would’ve poisoned me at dinner.
