Backstory: I’m my mother’s oldest child and away at school. Jane is my baby sister, she’s almost 4 and my younger brother is 17.
hi ladybug!
miss you like crazy and finding things to do around the house. jane and i have started painting—yeterday, i started an amazing portrait of a ballerina from the front of that San Francisco Ballet catalogue they always send us. i’m quite proud of the work so far, though jane’s talent leaves a little to be desired. i’m not a bitch! she’d be the first to admit it! just don’t tell her i told you that :) maybe she’ll improve once she gets as little older.
also, i cleaned out the front hall closet yesterday and found a blue and orange umbrella. is it yours? do you want me to send it to you? i thought i might also find your little brother in there, but alas, not yet. if he mentions anything to you, will you please let me know? i’m tired of waiting.
call me if you need anything or want that umbrella, i can ship it out with the cookies i just made.
love you to pieces,
momma

I love the part about finding her brother in the closet. That is classic.

Is she implying that your brother is gay?

I love how she says the 4 yr old will be the first to admit that her talent leaves a lot to be desired! lol.. love that.

omg, I want to switch moms w/you!

I really hope that mom is kidding about Jane. The kid’s not even 4 yet and she’s saying that her talent leaves a little to be desired. Exactly how talented was mom at age 4? And if that’s what the kids are expected to live up to, no wonder the little brother hasn’t said anything to mom…

I have a feeling that there is so much more to the whole family dynamic that has been missed. On every level, the note is just – well – just…

I think it’s great that mom has to wait for the brother to realize he is even IN the closet! I used to ask my daughter if some of her friends “knew they were gay yet”. Yeah Moms!

Maybe I’m the dopey one but… the way I read it, she’s not 4. She’s 4 years younger and is 17…

Ohhhh I am. The brother is 17…

@Ugh: The mom is kidding about the 4 yo, come on. Also, she’s cool enough that she clearly has no problem with her son being (possibly) gay, so points for mom.

LOL! I love this mom’s sense of humor.

hi! this happens to be my mother and i love her to death. about janey—she’s about as talented as any other toddler and my mom is very aware of that! haha, she’s just having fun.
as for my brother, he’s always been very flamboyant and musically/fashionably-inclined. my mom only recently picked up on it and is simply impatient for him to come out (he’s hinted to me that he *is* in fact gay)—i don’t know why, but she seems excited haha.
