Long Distance Wedding Planning

Backstory: I am currently working two jobs plus graduate school and planning my wedding from a distance…panicked this morning about not having a veil or picking out the silk flower headpiece – so I just bought one, on the internet and had it sent to my mom’s house. And then asked if being an adult ever got better. This was her response.

It looks lovely.  I’ll be looking for it.  It does not have to match exactly colorwise since it will be separated from the dress by your head.

PS  No being grownup is often not fun.

I concur with Mom’s PS. God, how do I concur…

      Sigh.

I find one can maximize the fun of adulthood by doing what is fun rather than what is expected. Of course, I’ve been shacked up with someone for 19 years without feeling the need to put on a headdress and trot down an aisle. Funny how our married friends are always so surprised that we still seem so in love after all these years . . .

Oh, Macaronimaniac, you really are better than the rest of us. Thanks for taking the opportunity to point that out.

Macaronimaniac, whether you get married or not is a personal choice. I hate it when people who choose not to get married think they’re so much better than those who do get married, because as we all know getting married is just “drinking the Kool-Aid,” right? We’re so insecure in our relationship that we need a piece of paper, right?

To most people, marriage is more than that. I don’t judge people who decide to live together without marrying. Why should they judge me for wanting to get married?

You guys are right. I’m sure the quality of this relationship really does depend on whether she trots around in a veil she ordered sight unseen. After all, as long as she’s “panicked” and convinced that being an adult is unpleasant, priorities are all in the right place.

or hey, it was lighthearted banter between a mother and daughter, who had a busy day and lot on her plate and whose mom made a joke of the situation to lighten the mood…

as long as everyone’s happy with their situation – married, unmarried, whatever – let’s just be glad that people have found someone/thing that makes them happy!

This sounds exactly like something my mother would say . . . after a few glasses of wine.

Best of luck to the bride to be on her nuptuals and all that follows. Being a grown up isn’t always unicorns and rainbows, but, just like most other things, it is what you make of it.

I love Mom’s assertion that the dress and the veil will be separated by her head! Hilarious! Better than her head being separated by the…oh, never mind!

Macaronimaniac, tired response. People can be stressed over valid and wonderful things too.
