Ted, I think you’re right. The mom just asked what the dad wanted for his birthday without specifically mentioning who the gift would be from. When I ask my husband that question, he usually assumes I’m talking about a gift from me. :)

Reminds me of the time that my dad told mama that all he wanted was a root* and a pair of socks.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I think that D’s Mom didn’t mention her daughter as the one to do the job, it was to humble her husband into shame that he would have those thoughts.Maybe her point wasn’t understood. It’s like years ago when Mothers would threaten the kids with “wait until your Father get’s home”
I believe the email was meant to be funny, not strange in the way everyone is taking it.
