Backstory: My mom usually says entirely the wrong thing. I was talking to her about how I was nervous to start a PhD on the phone and she’d really irritated me. Two days later, I got this in my mailbox. I’ve kept it ever since. Sometimes moms come through!
I know you must be very busy right now. Will talk to you next week.
I want to tell you how excited and proud I am of you. It is scarey to start a new direction in your life but it is also exciting and opens up all kinds of possibilities. And i know you will do great.

What a great mom! How can you stay mad when she is so totally behind you and your new life direction……….

She can’t spell scary right? Now that’s even scarier!

LiLi,
The way I look at snarkily pointing out spelling and grammar mistakes is that I’ll gladly do it when someone is a) crazy or b) bitchy. But when someone is trying to be nice I’ll either let it slide, or privately let that person know so that they can avoid future embarrassment.
In this instance, I’ll let this mom spell whatever she wants however she wants.

Go Nikki – I want thinking the same thing, but you stated it more tactfully that I would have done.

LiLi,
You’re suppose to find love and humor on this site. Read between the lines and quit being petty. Or is that…tacky?

Unnecessary, LiLi, especially since “scarey” is an accepted (but less common) variant. -100 points.

This made me cry. I sometimes forget how wonderful my mom can be and get too easily irritated with her for not understanding. Then a week later she will make me some fantastic meal or send me a sweet e-mail. I hope that I really do grow out of being such a jerk and that when I do, my mom will still be there.
