Backstory: My mum is desperate to get me off the shelf and married with babies. This was her latest “offering”. (Gail = her best friend, Gary = friend of my cousin).
I told Gail about you being out there and being a bit lonely and she suggested you got in touch with Dave, who now lives in Rotterdam and is trying to get a job there, such a coincidence! Do you remember him, he used to be friends with Gary at school? I know he was a bit strange when he was younger, but the thing is darling he is now apparently a lovely boy and has got over his eye problem now and also has got through to the last round on several interviews so won’t be unemployed much longer

This one is FUNNY! I wonder exactly what eye problem it is/was….. now I am curious. The last bit is so great, …. Can you imagine the ice breaking phone call?? “Hello? Dave?? Um, well, ….you used to be friends with a friend of my cousin long ago and well, I hear you’re over that eye thing and you’re nearly employed ..kinda …sorta…Gosh that’s great!! And well, I was wondering…..”

About the eye problem Emma Gardner. He is blind out of one eye and can’t see out of the other one.

This is my Mum – after further probing, I can confirm that the eye problem was a permanent boil on his left eyelid, which sounds lovely, although as she points out has now apparently cleared up. Still no luck on the job front though for Dave the catch so I’m holding back on the proposal just for now..
