Backstory: Hazel is my 19-month-old niece.
We’re giving Hazel a stove/sink kitchen set from Target and if you’re wondering what to get her for Xmas, think about some pots and pans and such. Can’t start her too young on the woman-as-slave notion.
OXOXOXO,
Mom

This isn’t meant as a criticism of your mum – but this kind of thing makes me so cross!! I’m going to start buying cooking and cleaning “toys” for my kids male children, and science kits and sports equipment and other fun stuff for the girls, and maybe in 20 years there won’t be a 23% pay gap. Arg!

I like your mom! That’s a great zinger at the end. And to be perfectly honest Sarah, most girls nowadays wouldn’t know a frying pan from a deep fryer.

My mom is just being funny, Sarah, she’s a very modern, open-minded woman. I’m sure she’d agree with your plan :)

BWAHAHA… I like your mom. This is just like something my mom would say.

The mom is obviously being sarcastic but Trixie, come on! Who gives a shit about the difference between a deep fryer and a frying pan. We have a glass ceiling to shatter!

I actually think it’s important for girls (and boys) to know the difference between a deep fryer and a frying pan. And to that end I am teaching my four-year-old daughter how to cook. On the flip side, I am ALSO teaching her the difference between the .410 and the .22 so she can go hunting with me as soon as she’s comfortable. :)

I am giving my 2yr old grandson the toy tool bench and such with the idea that in 3 or 4 yrs from now I can give him the real thing to take apart the world like his father did when Santa gave him real tools at 5……..don’t worry though he loves to bake cookies with grandma in the kitchen too including the clean up.
