Time to Put Aside Hard Feelings with Your Brother

Please give your brother a call. He needs to know that you care about what is going on in his life. It’s time to put aside the hard feelings over chopping off your Barbie’s hair and peeing in the seat of your Power Wheels Mercedes. I mean it’s not like you didn’t do things to him. He confided things in you and then the moment your behind was on the line you let loose the “do you know what he’s done…” verbal barrage. Ratted him out without even blinking. I appreciate that BTW – but that’s not the point here. Love brother – he’ll be your sole responsibility when I’m gone.

This definitely could have been my mom talking about my relationship with my brother. We’ve been trying to be good to each other now that we’ve hit adulthood. My sister and I are still working on it.

      I’d say the Barbie’s hair is a real deal-breaker.

When she mentions he will be your sole responsibility, is she referring to an illness your brother has?
My brother is mentally ill and so I had a tough childhood with all the things he did. Sometimes I worry about how it will be when my parents are gone.
I am wondering if this is the same type of scenario.

I just love how she mentions that she appreciated how you sold out your brother as a kid. It does make parenting easier to keep kids from forming cohesive rebellions.

Agreed: it sounds like the brother has some kind of mental illness.

Just came across to me like dry humour of a mother. I assumed said brother still lives at home, as sons are apt to do!

Maybe the Mum is refering to the fact that there is only the three of them in the family and that when she is gone they will be left with each other only.

As a Mum of 6 I rely on one of my kids ratting on the other/s or I would be in the dark a lot of the time.

She sounds like a cool and loving Mum :)
