For any number of reasons, this made me laugh.

My parents are the owners of 2 late-life-Labradors. Terrific dogs, but not they are not the parents who reared me!

Mom is a southerner and Daddy is a Yankee - they joke around all the time about, "The act of Northern aggression." Still, he redeemed himself to Mom's family by learning to cook like a true Southerner.

@Manda - I'm so sorry for the loss of your brother. My uncle killed himself over Christmas in 1978; the sadness never goes away, but we've learned to try and remember fun times with him so we too can laugh. Hugs.

LOL the Damn Yankee thing is a joke in our family. Years ago my aunt married a man from MA and when their marriage broke up my grandmother asked my aunt what happened and all she would say was "Damn Yankee". So now we put that in as many things as we can. Its all in fun.

And as for making the comment about the war... My brother killed himself three years ago this time of the year so we all do whatever we can to make Mom laugh. I knew this would do it.

My Mom had a really small chihuahua and his back legs never worked. So she carried him around in one of those pouches! I thought it was cute! :)

This was just plain...weird. The mother wanting a pouch for her dog, the daughter so adamantly refusing to help her find one, and the Civil War comment. O.O;

And to Uh, the "damn Yankees" comment refers to the same thing where I come from. ^_^ I'm from Michigan and although there's stereotypes about Southerners on TV all the time, I don't think anyone actually believes them. Also, I think the OP was just making a joke.

Of course, there was one time where my father was driving with some guy who was from the South and he started ranting about how the South should've won the Civil War...But I think that guy just had a few screws loose. ;)

Maybe it's just me, but I think it's generally the Southerners who have more of an issue with the North (see the Damn Yankees comment about us) than the North who would ever say anything like that suggested ("I told you all of those Southerners should have died in the Civil War"), about the South, at least where I'm from. "Damn Yankees" up here is in response to a certain evil baseball team. :)

That is disturbing. I fully support your decision to not contribute to the craziness of carrying a dog around in a pouch.

But the civil war story shows that she did pass a bit of craziness on to you! :)
