Dream Investigator

OK. So I have a recurring dream that I can pull some of my bottom teeth out and then put them back in. So, last night when that thought came in my head as I was dreaming, I remember thinking, oh yeah, that only happens in dreams. Let me check it out. So I did, pulled one of my bottom teeth out and put it back…always worried that it won’t stay in though.

Weird.

I have the exact same recurring dream–right down to the detail about thinking, “Oh, I must be dreaming . . . NO! IT REALLY DOES HAPPEN IN REAL LIFE!”

I’ve heard that dreaming about your teeth falling out is fairly common, and that it has to do with fear of aging. I don’t know. I do know that I never dreamed that when I was young, though.

I heard it was a stress dream. I have never had it-I always dream my hair is falling out!

I’ve heard it is common also. Funny, my two year old freaks out about teeth sometimes. If she sees a character on TV with no teeth, she always mentions it, looking very scared, saying ‘teef! teef!” I think that means she must dream about losing teeth too, as she only mentions teeth when they don’t have any or they are getting knocked out (like on Spongebob).

In my culture, there is a superstition that if you dream about losing your teeth, it’s a sign of impending death of someone you know. The “remedy” is to tell as many people as possible about our dream (as it decreses the potency of a curse-like dream) and to bite your pillow when you wake up.
