Hey girls,
I just want you to know that I was surprised that not a single card came for me for my birthday. I love that you called but it’s been bugging me for the last few days so instead of taking up space in my bug head, I’m sharing it. As you well know I am not a “need to have a gift mom” but I guess I am for sure need to have a card/thought mom. So, no need to send one now however I want you to know the dates to which I like to receive a thought in the mail
Nov 9th (you did this year, thanks)
April 15
Mother’s Day
July 25th.
Thanks and have a good day/night.

I admire that she lets you know exactly what she does and does not expect! That way there’s no passive agressiveness and no hurt feelings. Unless you don’t do it, of course.

I love that she wants a card for Tax Day! That has me in stitches. My mom asked for a chainsaw for Mother’s Day. I informed her I wouldn’t be an accomplice.

Does she need to get it by April 15, or does it just need to be post-marked for that day? Will there be a late fee?

Hmm. Part of me is horrified at the demanding attitude, and the other part of me is tremendously envious of someone who can be direct rather than passive-aggressive about this kind of stuff.
And then, too, if I were the mom here, this note would effectively ruin any future cards I did get. The whole reason people are P-A about this stuff is that what we want is for someone to *want* to think of us without prompting; asking for it means that when it’s given you can never believe that it was given in good faith, rather than as a way to avoid getting in trouble.
