Am I Compatible With Dad?

Backstory: this was after being married for 35 years.

Hey, I just signed your father and I up for Eharmony, apparently they have a computer that pairs you up if you’re compatible and i want to find out what it thinks.

OMG! I almost fell off the couch! What I want to know is, What if she finds out that they aren’t compatible?

I know. I laughed for quite a while. This is exactly the kind of thing my mom would do if she could figure out how to do it.

I also almost fell off the couch because my husband of over 20yrs suggests this everytime we see an EHarmony commercial! I’ll have to let him know he’s not the only one who wonders about this!

My husband in a moment of weakness once confessed he thought of having us both do this (we’ve only been together about 10 years). It’s so bizarrely unlike him. I guess he never followed through, though, because he didn’t want to find out if we weren’t compatible!

I would do this with a boyfriend, I think.
But if I’ve been with the person a long time and then find out we’re not compatible, I don’t think it’d bother me because we obviously lasted long enough.

I could see this as the set up for a romantic comedy I’d actually watch: compatibility test results are ambiguous or negative, resentment boils up, couple does crazy things to try to make themselves “count” as compatible, All’s Well That Ends Well.

This could also make a good reality / game show concept. It might be slightly less trashy than that Temptation Island one…

[...] Am I Compatible With Dad? This is just amazing. And hilarious. And yet I feel like it’s something that would feature in a Franzen novel. (Postcards From Yo Momma) [...]

I can’t say anything. I’ve said I was going to do the same thing before with my husband and we’ve been married almost 20 yrs.

I have thought about doing this, but I’ve only been married almost a year…

Hm, I didn’t read this that the mother would take the results seriously. It sounds like something that would be funny to do, like “oh honey, eHarmony says we’re not compatible, uh oh!”
